Roberto Traina - A Lens between Italy and Cambodia

Roberto is a Sicilian photographer, lecturer and artist based in Italy and Cambodia.

Roberto Traina is part of a community of Italian artists making an impact in Cambodia. With over 20 years of experience as a photographer, videographer, and art director, Roberto’s work spans commercial, artistic, and educational projects between Italy and Cambodia.

Roberto collaborated with Prof. Carlo Santoro for the Cosmic Illusions exhibition in Phnom Penh. This project combined photography and generative art to explore how visuals and technology intersect. He continued with Highrise Arts: The Night of the Stars - rooftop exhibition where he presented a stunning video installation showcasing the Milky Way over Angkor Wat. His work with light saw him participate in Light Painting Cambodia, where Roberto worked with LEDs and Arduino technology to create beautiful light-based performances. These interactive events in Phnom Penh highlighted the creative potential of combining technology with traditional artistic forms.

In 2024, Roberto has continued contributing in Cambodia. He leads a collective of visual storytellers and musicians, focusing on contemporary themes in Asia. He’s also involved in the Agroecology Live Learning Lab (AELLAB) project by DanChurchAid, which supports Cambodian farmers in adopting sustainable agriculture practices through innovative educational methods.
Beyond his artistic projects, Roberto is a professor in Communications and Public Relations at Raffles University in Phnom Penh where shares his expertise in visual storytelling and communication.
